Falcons Start Weekend Series at Ferris State With 3-1 Victory

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Bowling Green Falcons (10-5-4, 7-3-3 CCHA) opened the weekend series at Ferris State by controlling play from the opening puck drop and earning a 3-1 victory over the Bulldogs (4-19-0, 3-12-0 CCHA) on Friday night at Ewigleben Ice Arena, collecting the full three points in the CCHA standings.
BGSU dictated the pace throughout the contest, outshooting Ferris State 41-17 on the night, including a commanding 17-3 edge in the opening period. Despite the territorial advantage, the Bulldogs struck first early in the second period before the Falcons responded with three unanswered goals to secure the road win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ferris State opened the scoring 1:47 into the second period when Jack Mesic scored just after the Bulldogs killed a penalty.
• Just over 12 minutes later, BGSU tied the game at 1-1 as Brody Waters redirected a shot into the net, with Jake Sloan and Jackson Niedermayer earning assists.
• Following a Ferris State holding penalty, the Falcons capitalized on the power play with 4:39 remaining in the second period. Jaden Grant cleaned up a loose puck at the crease, with Ty Higgins and Dominik Rymon credited with assists.
• BGSU put the game away with 56 seconds remaining as Brandon Whynott scored an empty-net goal. Ben Doran and Waters recorded assists on the play.
FALCON NOTES
• Goaltender Cole Moore made his fifth-straight start and stopped 16 of 17 shots, earning the win.
• Ty Higgins recorded his third assist in as many collegiate games.
• Brandon Whynott's empty-net tally marked the first collegiate goal of his career. He also recorded his first collegiate point against Ferris State on Nov. 15.
• Jaden Grant scored a goal for the second consecutive game and was credited with the game-winning goal, his third of the season and first since Nov. 15 against Ferris State.
• Brody Waters posted one goal and one assist for the second straight game.
