How It HappenedÂ
- After nearly six minutes of back-and-forth skating to start off, Niagara was called for slashing on a breakaway by Tyler Hotson, granting Hotson a penalty shot. He made it count, netting the first score of the night for a 1-0 lead.
- Niagara managed to answer soon after for a 1-1 tie with 9:19 remaining in the first period. The score held through the end of the period, but a late Niagara penalty created BGSU power play that carried a minute and 39 seconds over to the second period.Â
- Niagara managed to survive the Bowling Green penalty by mere seconds, but the goal came nonetheless. Just seconds after the Purple Eagles returned to full strength, Tyler Hotson sent the puck into the net for his second goal of the night with assists coming from Noah Morneau and Connor Levis.Â
- With just under two minutes remaining in the second period, Niagara tied the score. After a review, the goal was upheld for a 2-2 tie heading into the second intermission.Â
- The two teams continued to skate tied up through the end of the third period. A late third period penalty granted Niagara a power play that carried to a 4-on-3 advantage to start the overtime frame.
- Bowling Green successfully fended off the power play, but a goal late in the overtime frame for Niagara, coming with less than 30 seconds remaining, made the difference in the 3-2.Â
