SETTING THE SCENE / FOLLOW THE FALCONS
• The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team, currently riding a four-game winning streak, steps outside of Missouri Valley Conference play Tuesday (Oct. 20). Head coach Eric Nichols and the Falcons face Oakland University, with first touch set for 7:00 p.m. at Oakland Soccer Field.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will return home for a Sunday-afternoon (Oct. 25) matchup with Belmont University. The game – which pits the first-place Falcons against the second-place Bruins – begins at 3:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium, and admission is free.
TODAY'S PAGE-ONE-WORTHY NOTES
• The Falcons, as mentioned, have won four-straight games heading into the Oakland match. Most recently, BG picked up a 1-0 win at Evansville on Saturday night (Oct. 17). That result was the 200th career win for Eric Nichols in his head-coaching career. Nichols, who had a record of 59-22-2 in four seasons at Ohio Dominican, now has 141 victories at the helm of the Falcons.
• BGSU has won four consecutive matches for the first time in over five years, since Sept. 14-24, 2021. The last five-game winning streak for the Falcons came at the start of the 2017 season (Aug. 26-Sept. 9, 2017).
• Barring a change in the RPI rankings during the week, Saturday's Belmont match will be the third consecutive league contest in which the Falcons will face the top-ranked team in the league in terms of RPI. Both Drake and Evansville were at the top of the MVC list at the time of those respective matches with BGSU, and Belmont is the highest-ranked MVC squad as of Monday (Oct. 19).
