SETTING THE SCENE / FOLLOW THE FALCONS
• The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team, currently riding a six-game winning streak, steps outside of Missouri Valley Conference play for one final time this season. Head coach Eric Nichols and the Falcons host Wilmington College on Wednesday night (Oct. 28), with first touch set for 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium. Admission – as is the case for all regular-season home matches – is free.
TODAY'S PAGE-ONE-WORTHY NOTES
• Although Wednesday's Wilmington match is the last home game of the regular season, it will not be the team's final contest at Cochrane in 2026. BGSU has clinched no worse than the number-three seed for the MVC Tournament. Should the Falcons finish third, BGSU would host a league tournament quarterfinal-round match on Sunday, Nov. 8. If the Falcons end the season seeded first or second, BG would earn a quarterfinal-round bye and would host a semifinal game on Wednesday, Nov. 11.
• Bud Lewis, who has strong ties to both BGSU and Wilmington, will be recognized prior to Wednesday's contest. Lewis was a four-year letterwinner for the Falcons, and was named an NSCAA All-American in his senior season of 1974. He became the head coach at Wilmington in 1975, and embarked upon an epic 43-year career with the Quakers. At the time of his retirement after the 2017 season, Lewis was ranked among the top-10 coaches in NCAA Division-III history in total wins (506).
• The Falcons have won six-straight games for the first time in nearly three decades, since the 1997 team put together an 11-game winning streak.
• Senior goalkeeper Jason Ball leads the entire nation in save percentage (.913) and is ranked third in the country in goals-against average (0.50).
