KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Bowling Green ended the MAC Championship at the Prairies Golf Club with six personal records. The Falcons also eclipsed last year's finish, edging out Kent State with 212 points and a ninth-place finish.
"It was a good day," said Associate Cross Country Coach Rachel Rhynard. "When you have four freshmen in your top six competing in their first MAC championship, that's a big deal. Like this is an experience that they haven't had before, and for them to come in and be solid, that's the backbone of our team right now."
Once again, Owen Zaumeyer led the way for BGSU. The junior ran a sub-25 8K for the second straight race in a row, crossing the finish line 30th at 24:55.
Aiden Lee entered the postseason for the first time collegiately but didn't shy away from the moment. The freshman ran a personal best 25:13.4 8K to finish 40th.
"Aiden has been a great addition to this team," said Rhynard. "He has so much confidence that most freshmen probably don't have because this transition is so hard. But that has not faltered Aiden at all."
Another freshman, Colin Buening, had an impressive MAC Championship debut as well. His 25:22.6 race was a personal best, bettering his last visit to the Prairies Golf Club by over 30 seconds. Luke Lesseuer echoed similar improvement, reaching the finish at 25:24.6 (PR).
Gibson Shore (26:00.9, PR) and Cameron Hohman (26:06.5, PR) closed the race in tandem, while Micah Bentley completed the scoring for BGSU with a 26:14.5 race.
Wyatt Ulbricht (26:18.7, PR) and Luke Woolard (26:24.0) ended the day for Bowling Green. The Falcons look forward to Friday, Nov. 13 when they travel to East Lansing for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
"It's a tough turnaround," said Rhynard. "Two weeks for regionals when the men move up to a 10K distance. The training that I've had them do and how we structure the whole season is to be ready for a 10K. We talk about new experiences here, it's a whole new experience at the regional championship. We just have to stay healthy and have a quick turnaround.
