Falcons post second road win in five days

PEORIA, Ill. – For the second time in five days, the Bowling Green State University men's soccer team went on the road and picked up a 2-1 win. On Saturday (Oct. 3), the Falcons' win came in Missouri Valley Conference play, as BG topped Bradley University at Shea Stadium.

Freshman Aidan Flanders and sophomore Caue Ramos each scored for the Falcons (3-6-2, 1-1-0 MVC), while senior Jason Ball tied his career high with nine saves. One of those stops came on a penalty kick by Bradley's Mitch Coughlon in the 85th minute.

The Braves (2-3-5, 0-2-0 MVC) spoiled the Falcons' shutout bid in the 86th minute, as a free kick deflected off of a BG defender and into the net with just 4:15 remaining.

Bradley had a 24-10 advantage in total shots, a 9-5 lead in shots on goal and a 12-5 margin in corner kicks.

BG took the lead 15 minutes into the match, and doubled the advantage just under 15 minutes into the second half. Both scoring plays began with corner kicks by senior Aidan Ptacek.

After the first such corner, Ptacek received the ball back on the left side, and played a cross into the center of the 18-yard box. That cross was headed by a Bradley defender, but Joshua Pedersen got a boot on it, redirecting it to Flanders, who poked it with the outside of his right foot and found the far upper corner of the net.

BG's second goal came when Ramos got his head on a Ptacek corner at the near post, putting it past BU goalkeeper Marcal Salom Chandre and into the net. Salom Chandre had three saves on the night.
