Scouting Sacred Heart
The Falcons will be the first regular season opponent of the season for Sacred Heart. The Pioneers opened the season with a scrimmage against No. 20 Merrimack on Oct. 2, falling 3-1. SHU followed it up with a 3-0 exhibition win over Carleton on Oct. 4. Sacred Heart is coming off a 2025-26 season where they finished 23-14-3 while posting a 15-8-3 conference record. The Pioneers made a run in the conference tournament, advancing to the title game, but falling short, 3-2, to Bentley. Like the Falcons, Sacred Heart is currently receiving votes in the USCHO Poll, receiving three this week.Â
Against SHU All-Time
The Falcons will be facing Sacred Heart for the first time in program history. The Pioneers will be the 83rd unique opponent in program history and the first new addition to the record book this season.Â
Scouting UConn
Like Sacred Heart, UConn will be opening their regular season this weekend with the Ice Breaker. However, unlike Sacred Heart, they didn't have any action last weekend. Prior to facing Bowling Green, the Huskies will host Penn State on Friday (Oct. 9) at 7 p.m. as part of the Ice Breaker. Last year, UConn posted a 20-13-5 record overall while going 12-9-3 in conference play. UConn advanced to the Hockey Championship, falling short to Merrimack, but earning a spot in the NCAA Regional.
Against UConn All-Time
The Falcons will be facing UConn for the fifth time in program history with a previous record of 3-0-1 against the Huskies. The last meetings between the two came in 2011-12 at Slater Family Ice Arena. The Falcons won the first game, 2-1, on Oct. 7 before an overtime 4-4 tie on Oct. 8.Â
Doran Approaching 100
Ben Doran is just one game played away from joining the century club at Bowling Green with 100 games played. Entering the weekend with 99 games, Doran is coming off a strong season for the Falcons in multiple facets. He tallied a team-leading 24 assists last year, the most by a Falcon since 2022-23. Doran was also a key piece in the Falcons' faceoffs with 636, the most since Taylor Schneider had 723 in 2021. Doran's impact last season has earned him preseason honors this year, being named to the Preseason All-CCHA Team in the Coaches Poll. Â
Scoring With Minville
In each of Bowling Green's first two games of the season, Jeremie Minville tallied a goal, becoming the first Falcon to multiple goals this year. In the season opener, Minville's goal came on the power play. Minville's goal total is now tied for second in the CCHA and fifth in the nation. Last year, Minville recorded four goals over the course of the season, all coming on even strength opportunities.Â
Campbell Catching On Quick
Only three Falcons registered multiple points across the opening weekend of the season and just one had multiple assists. That one was freshman Carson Campbell. Campbell assisted on Max Martin's goal in the first game of the season as well as Breck McKinley's goal in the home opener. The pair of assists has Campbell atop the CCHA for assists per game while being tied for 24th in the nation for the stat as well. Campbell arrived in Bowling Green after three seasons with Kitchener, including eight assists in 18 playoff games on the way to a Memorial Cup.
Iron Sharpens Iron
Through the first two weeks of the season, each opponent for the Falcons will be at least receiving votes in the USCHO poll. Bowling Green began the season against Michigan who was ranked No. 2 in the nation in both polls. Now, the Falcons will shift to facing Sacred Heart, who is receiving votes in the USCHO poll, followed by UConn who is No. 16 in the USCHO poll and No. 14 in the USA Hockey poll. The Falcons are one of two teams in the CCHA to have all opponents so far receiving votes this year. Augustana faced North Dakota last week and now Minnesota Duluth this week.
