How It Happened
- The two teams skated cleanly for the first nine minutes of the game, but the Falcons broke free from the scoreless knot. Dominik Rymon was able to convert a one-timer glove side off an assist from Noah Morneau for a 1-0 BGSU lead.
- The first penalty of the game didn't come until the media timeout of the first period with a roughing call against the Falcons bringing on the stoppage. The Falcons thwarted off the power play to maintain the lead.
- Soon after the penalty kill, the Falcons earned a power play and 20 seconds later a 5-on-3 advantage for a minute-forty. Bowling Green made the advantage count, working for a Tyler Hotson goal off assists from Breck McKinley and Conner Levis for a 2-0 lead with five minutes remaining in the first period.
- Before the end of the period, Sacred Heart worked for a goal to narrow the gap to 2-1.
- The Pioneers gained a power play with 1:56 remaining in the first period. Additional penalties came against both teams with 38 seconds left in the period, sending three Falcons and one Pioneer to the box through the end of the period. Skating down 5-on-3, the Falcons maintained their 2-1 lead through the end of the period.
- Bowling Green held off the penalty through the start of the second period. The 2-1 score held from there through the end of the period.
- Just past the midway point of the third period, Sacred Heart found the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2.
- With just under eight minutes left in the third period, SHU was called for slashing, but a Bowling Green tripping call followed about 25 seconds later, leading to a 4-on-4. The Pioneers worked for a look late in their power play, but a diving stop by Tyler Palmer kept the score 2-2.
- With 1:59 left in the game, the Falcons drew a holding penalty to earn a power play. Just 14 seconds into the power play, Brody Waters tallied the game-winning goal with assists from Levis and Morneau to set up the 3-2 final in favor of the Falcons.
