Falcons Rally From Six-Run Deficit for Sixth Win of Season
February 14, 2026 | Softball
BGSU is off to a school record-tying 6-1 start after Saturday's 11-10 win over Towson
Hannah Hunt had three hits and four runs batted in for the Falcons (6-1), while Ashley Chevalier drove in three runs in the win. Hunt, Taylor Behrendt and Hannah Simko each scored three runs.
Addie Ferguson had four RBI and Grace Franczyk three for the Tigers (2-5). Each player had a three-run homer during a seven-run second inning.
Down by a 7-1 count, the Falcons responded with four runs in the third inning and three in the fourth, taking the lead on a two-run single by Chevalier. The Tigers tied the game, 8-8, with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Cameron Kaufman gave BG the lead once again with a fifth-inning single, and Chevalier was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it a 10-8 game.
Hunt's single scored Simko in the sixth, but the Tigers got two runs back in the bottom of the inning. But, with runners at the corners – the tying run at third and the go-ahead run at first – Mackenzie Krafcik got an inning-ending strikeout.
Krafcik, the fifth BGSU pitcher of the game, then retired the side in order in the seventh to lock down the win.
Avari Sandifer, the fourth of those five pitchers, picked up the first win of her young collegiate career, while Krafcik earned the save.
NOTE OF THE DAY
• As mentioned, the Falcons are 6-1 on the young season. That is tied for the best start in school history.
• The 2006 and 2018 teams each began the season at 6-1 as well.
BGSU-TOWSON – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons broke on top early. Hannah Simko led off the game with a single off of Towson starting pitcher Amanda Medina. Simko stole second and came around to score on a single by Hannah Hunt.
• The Tigers, however, took the lead with a big second inning. After back-to-back singles to start the inning, Addie Ferguson homered to give Towson a 3-1 lead. And, later in the frame, Grace Franczyk hit a three-run homer of her own to extend the Tigers' lead to 7-1.
• But, the Falcons battled back. Simko reached on an error to begin the third inning, and Katie Hutter's bunt single put a pair of runners aboard. Then, Simko scored when Taylor Behrendt's sac bunt resulted in another Towson error. After a wild pitch, Hannah Hunt's two-run single cut the Falcons' deficit to three.
• Then, Peyton Steffes walked, Ashley Chevalier reached on yet another TU error, and Addie Martin's infield single scored Hunt. With the bases still loaded and just one out, Medina avoided further damage for the time being, with a strikeout and a grounder back to the circle. But, BG would come all the way back in the fourth.
• In that Falcon fourth frame, Behrendt walked with one out, and Hunt and Cameron Kaufman each were hit by pitch to load the bases. A free pass to Steffes scored Behrendt, and Chevalier singled to score two runs and give the Falcons an 8-7 lead.
• The Tigers responded with an unearned run in the fourth. After an error allowed the leadoff hitter to reach, an infield single and a walk loaded the bases, and a wild pitch scored Hannah Lebert. A two-out walk reloaded the bases, but Avari Sandifer entered the game and got a ground ball to short for the third out.
• BG retook the lead in the fifth, all after the first two hitters were retired. Behrendt singled, Hunt's sac bunt resulted in an error and Kaufman's single scored Behrendt. The Tigers went to the bullpen, but Steffes drew a walk against Mikaela Guy, who then hit Chevalier with a pitch, allowing Hunt to trot home with the Falcons' 11th run.
• Towson put two runs on the board in the sixth, as three-straight one-out singles loaded the bases before Ferguson's base hit plated pinch-runner Sara Hopper. With the bases still loaded and one out, a sacrifice fly by Alyssa Myint scored a teammate and narrowed the BGSU lead to 11-10.
• But, with runners at the corners, Mackenzie Krafcik struck out pinch-hitter Isabella Canesi to retire the side. Then, the senior worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning, getting a game-ending ground ball to short off the bat of Kaci Benton.
• Both teams had 10 hits and drew six walks in the game.
