Campbell Ties Own Single-Season Steals Record With 90
OXFORD, Ohio. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team took on the undefeated and nationally-ranked Miami (OH) RedHawks Friday night (Feb. 20). The Falcons held Miami below their nation-best shooting percentage, but the RedHawks managed to put together a 91-77 final score. In the midst of the action, Javontae Campbell became the 50th player in program history to register 1,000 in the Orange and Brown, doing so in less than two full seasons. The Falcons move to 16-12 on the season while being 7-8 in the MAC with three games left in the regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami (OH) won the opening up and tallied the first points of the game with a jumper just outside the paint. The RedHawk start reached 3-0 with a free throw before a Sam Towns layup and Javontae Campbell three made for a 5-0 BGSU burst and a 5-3 lead.Â
- Miami answered back with a 5-0 run of their own for an 8-5 score. Back-to-back points in the paint from Troy Glover II pushed BGSU back in front, but a Miami three answered. The Falcons fought back with a Justin Thomas floater to continue the back-and-forth, heading into the first media timeout, coming at 14:16 on the clock with a 13-11 Miami lead.
- Out of the break, Mayar Wol drove through the lane to knot it up. The RedHawks sank two at the line, but a Towns triple pushed BGSU in front. The back-and-forth continued with a layup from each team, BGSU's coming from a Thomas on a second-chance effort before a Miami jumper kept them in front, 19-18, at the under-12 media timeout.
- After the timeout, Javon Ruffin connected on three free throws for a BGSU lead, but Miami answered with a 9-0 burst for a 28-21 score at the under-8 media break. They added a free throw after the break Campbell ended the run for the Falcons with a layup through the paint before another 8-0 stretch for Miami, forcing a BGSU timeout with the score at 37-23. Out of the timeout, Josiah Shackelford made one at the line. The scoring for the Falcons continued with a Campbell layup. Aiden Goins later went to the line, making a pair before a Campbell swipe and score, leading to a 45-30 halftime score.
- Miami scored the first points of the half, but the Falcons answered with back-to-back Shackelford threes. Campbell added one at the line for a 7-0 run. Miami answered with a 6-1 stretch that contained a Glover free throw. Glover added a layup underneath to end the run. Campbell worked for a tip-in, drawing a foul in the process for a 54-42 score at the first media timeout of the second half.
- The back-and-forth continued out of the timeout with Wol and Campbell getting layups to fall for the Falcons. Wol added another before a Campbell steal and BGSU timeout with the score at 59-48. Out of the break, Wol drilled a three for the Falcons, but a 4-0 Miami burst made it 63-51 at the under-12 break.
- Each team hit a three coming out of the timeout with Wol connecting from the corner for BGSU's. Campbell hit another triple before a Shackelford layup in transition off a Wol steal continued the Bowling Green scoring for a 72-59 tally at the under-8 media timeout. The RedHawks added two at the line after the timeout.
- Shackelford hit a three to restart the BGSU scoring with Glover adding a one-hand slam, but a trio of threes from Miami pushed their lead to 85-64 with a BGSU timeout, counting as the under-4 media. Campbell worked for the next seven BGSU points for an 89-71 score. Ruffin added a corner three with Wol doing the same soon after for the 91-77 final.

- Javontae Campbell tallied 24 points for the Falcons, leading the team and surpassing the 1,000-point mark for his BGSU career, now with 1,004. Campbell is the 50th Falcon to reach 1,000 points and the first since Daeqwon Plowden in 2022. The 20-point game also marked his 20th with BGSU.
- Campbell added six assists, leading the team, and six rebounds, tying for the team lead. Campbell swiped a pair of steals in the game as well, giving him 90 on the season. The mark ties his own single-season program record, set last year, while tying for fifth in the MAC single-season record book.
- Josiah Shackelford and Mayar Wol both heated up from three, each connecting on three three-pointers in the game. Wol finished with 15 points while Shackelford added 12, joining Campbell in the double-digit scoring efforts.
