One Record Down, One To Go
Through 28 games, Javontae Campbell is averaging 3.2 steals per game with 90 total for the season, leading the nation in both stats. With 90 steals, Campbell has already tied his single-season program record that he set last year with his next breaking it once again. As for the MAC record, Campbell is within range with three regular season games remaining and any postseason games counting towards the mark. The MAC record is set at 103 by Ball State's Bonzi Wells in 1997-98. For those looking to follow Campbell's projections, Falcon Sports Media Network's Tyler Kavalecz is doing a game-by-game update on his Twitter/X page (@TKavaleczSports).Â
Scouting The Broncos
Since the last meeting between BGSU and Western Michigan, the Broncos have posted a record of 2-6 with the wins coming against Central Michigan at home and Eastern Michigan on the road. The win over EMU marked their only in their last seven games. The Broncos are led by Justice Williams who has played in all their MAC games, but none of the non-conference. Williams is averaging a team-high 14.8 points per game while also averaging a team-high 29.4 minutes per contest.Â
BGSU vs. Western Michigan, All-Time
Bowling Green and Western Michigan will be meeting for the 132nd time in program history with the series leaning to BGSU, 79-52. As for games hosted by Bowling Green, the Falcons have a record of 44-19. BGSU and WMU met once previously this season with the Falcons registering a 72-54 win. Defense led the way for the Orange and Brown, forcing 15 turnovers and holding WMU to 32.1-percent from the field and 23.1-percent from three. Offensively, both Sam Towns and Javontae Campbell added 20-point outings.Â
Simon Eyeing Elite Program Company
Now in his third season at the helm of the Falcons, head coach Todd Simon has tallied 50 wins with the Orange and Brown, becoming the second-fastest coach to 50 wins in program history, needing 92 games, behind only Harold Anderson (59 games). Now, Simon is a win away from becoming the first BGSU head coach to register 51+ wins in his first three seasons during the program's MAC Era. Dan Dakich previously held the mark with 50 wins over his first three seasons. Harold Anderson was the last coach to start his tenure pre-MAC at Bowling Green with the Falcons joining the MAC in 1953-54, Anderon's fourth season at the helm of the Orange and Brown.Â
Javontae One Of Six In The Nation
Javontae Campbell is one of six players in the nation this season to tally at least 525 points and 140 assists, currently with 527 and 141, respectively. Campbell is joined on the list by Arkansas' Darius Acuff Jr. (599 Points, 167 Assists), South Alabama's Chaze Harris (549 Points, 141 Assists), Akron's Tavari Johnson (554 Points, 141 Assists), Mercer's Baracka Okojie (549 Points, 152 Assists) and Montana's Money Williams (544 Points, 143 Assists). Campbell is the only of the six with 50+ steals this season, currently with a nation-leading 90.
Glover Nearing Record Book Entry
Troy Glover II has been strong in the paint defensively for the Falcons, logging at least one block in 12 of the last 14 games for Bowling Green, including 12 over a three-game stretch from Feb. 11-17. The surge for Glover has not only pushed him up the MAC leaderboards, now second behind only Central Michigan's Nathan Claerbaut, but also has him on the brink of the BGSU record book. Glover is now just one block away from entering BGSU's top 10 for single-season blocks, trailing Ed Colbert's 1990-91 campaign. Glover is currently on pace to finish the regular season with 46 blocks, which would tie for ninth in program history, but all postseason stats would count as well.Â
Campbell Closing In On History
With three games to go in the regular season and the postseason left to be decided, Javontae Campbell has a chance to do something that only Antonio Daniels can claim to have done for BGSU. Campbell is currently 73 points and nine assists shy of entering the top 10 for each stat's single-season records in program history. Currently, Antonio Daniels is the only player in the top 10 for both, second with 767 points and third with 216 assists from the 1996-97 season. To hit the marks in the regular season, Campbell needs to average 24.3 points and 3.0 assists per game, but all postseason stats would count as well.Â
Home Sweet Home
With two more home games left in the regular season, the Falcons need one more win at the Stroh Center to reach double-digit home wins this year, entering the week with nine. The feat would mark the eighth time since the building opened that BGSU men's hoops has reached double-digit home wins and the second time in three seasons under Coach Simon.Â
Campbell Makes Scoring History
Javontae Campbell checked one scoring milestone off the list against NIU, eclipsing the 2,000-point mark for his collegiate career across all levels. He then pushed past the 1,000-point mark for his BGSU career against Miami (OH), becoming the 50th player in program history to score 1,000 points for the Falcons and the first since 2022. Campbell needed just 60 games over two seasons to reach the mark. He's now just the fifth player in program history to reach 1,000 points in his first two BGSU seasons, joining a list of James Darrow, James Gerber, Martin Samarco and Tommy Harris.
