Addison Kartusch Leads NGI Field Following Stellar Day Two Outing

Falcons Jump To Fourth In Team Standings After Second Day
MARICOPA, Ariz. --Â The Bowling Green State University women's golf team made strides in the field on Saturday (May 16) during the second day of competition at the National Golf Invitational (NGI). As a team, the Falcons posted a cumulative score of seven over par, the third-best team score of the day behind Wyoming (+1) and Denver (+3), who hold the top two spots in the field. Leading the way for the Falcons has been Addison Kartusch, pacing the field by two strokes after two rounds. Kartusch bettered her first day score of one under par by shooting a 68 on Saturday, tied for the best round of the tournament so far and securing her spot atop the leaderboard.Â
Kartusch has been solid across the course for the Falcons. Through two rounds, she is tied for the tournament lead on Par 3s, shooting -2, tied for the tournament lead on Par 4s, shooting +1 and tied for second in the field for Par 5s, shooting -4. Kartusch is the only player in the field that sits in the top two for all three categories, aiding in building a two-stroke lead at the conclusion of the day.Â
As a team, the Falcons have made their moves on Par 5s, being one of four teams in the field to have a team score under par on such holes, shooting -1. Additionally, Bowling Green is currently tied for fourth in the field for birdies with 22.Â
The third round of the NGI will tee off at 6:45 a.m. local time. For the Falcons, their day will begin at 8:05 with McKenzie Miller. Macie Elzinga will follow at 8:14, Sammie Dolce at 8:23, Ava O'Sullivan at 8:32 and Kartusch at 8:41. BGSU will be playing with Stetson and Mercer. Wyoming, Denver and Rutgers will be the final groups of the day with the final trio teeing off at 9:26 local time.Â

Addison Kartusch shot a one-under-par 71 as the Bowling Green State University women's golf team opened play at the National Golf Invitational (NGI) on Friday (May 15), at the AK-Chin Southern Golf Club. Head coach Erin Fahey's Falcons are competing in the national postseason action in back-to-back seasons for the first time in program history.

Kartusch led the way for the Orange and Brown, entering the clubhouse tied for the lead before finishing the day deadlocked for fourth on the leaderboard.

As a team, the Falcons are eighth out of 10 teams with a day-one score of 304. BGSU, at 16 over par, sits just six strokes out of fourth place and nine behind the second-place teams. Wyoming finished day one in the lead with a team score of 287, nine strokes ahead of Bradley and Rutgers (296).

Kartusch tallied a trio of birdies to combat two bogeys for the -1 round. Two of her birdies came on Par 5s, birding half of the Par 5s on the course, with the third being on a Par 4. At the time of her round finishing, Kartusch was one of just two players in the field with multiple birdies on Par 5s. In addition to Kartusch, McKenzie Miller was among the leaders in the field for birdies during the first day, logging four over the course of her round, tied for second at the time of her round concluding, and good for the top 10 after all teams concluded Friday action.

Miller finished the day at four over par, with Macie Elzinga (+6), Sammie Dolce (+7) and Ava O'Sullivan (+9) rounding out the Falcons' competitors.
