BGSU Athletics Announces Staff Changes Ahead Of 2026-27 Academic Year

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University Vice President for Athletics Strategy Derek van der Merwe has announced various hires and title changes within Bowling Green's athletic department. The changes for the Falcons come within the facilities, communications, development and student-athlete services areas of the department.
Nathan Anderson Elevated to Executive Staff
Nathan Anderson has been elevated to the executive staff within the athletic department. Serving as BGSU's Senior Associate AD for Development, Anderson joins the executive staff following Dan Meyer's promotion to a leadership role with University Advancement.Â
Anderson joined the Falcons in September 2023 and has been an integral piece of the athletic department's expansion within donor regions. Overseeing events, Anderson has branched the reach of BGSU Athletics both near and far, including events as close as Bowling Green and Findlay, and as far as Los Angeles and Miami. Anderson joined Bowling Green after six years at UCLA, including time as an associate director of development.Â
Dr. Jamie Baringer Appointed as Softball Sport Administrator
Dr. Jamie Baringer will be taking over the softball sport administrator responsibilities for Bowling Green, a role that was previously held by Steve Messenger who announced his retirement. The Associate AD for Facility Operations, Baringer's oversight of softball will mark her first sport administrator responsibility at Bowling Green.Â
Joining Bowling Green in July 2010, Baringer began as the Director of the BGSU Ice Arena. In January 2016, Baringer was promoted to Assistant AD of Arena Operation, taking over leadership within the Stroh Center as well. She was again promoted in July 2020, being elevated to Associate AD for Facility Operations. Baringer also earned her Educational Doctorate (Ed.D) in Leadership Studies from Bowling Green in 2023.Â
Kyle Edmond Promoted to Assistant AD for Strategic Communications
Kyle Edmond has been promoted to Assistant AD for Strategic Communications, overseeing the athletic department's communications efforts. A two-time BGSU graduate, Edmond has been working in the Bowling Green communications department for the last nine years. He began as a student volunteer in 2017, moved up to an intern in the spring of 2019 and was hired full-time as an Assistant Director for Strategic Communications in September 2021. Edmond has been serving as the Interim Director for Strategic Communications since May 4.
During Edmond's time with Bowling Green, he has served as the contact for 12 of BGSU's 18 sports at one time or another. Most recently, he's served as the volleyball, men's basketball and baseball contact for the last four seasons as well as handling secondary football responsibilities. A native of Tiffin, Ohio, Edmond graduated from BGSU in August of 2019 with a bachelor's degree in sport management and a journalism minor. He earned a Master's of Arts in December 2023 from BGSU in Strategic Communications and Social Media. Edmond is also a third-generation SID, including his grandfather, Dick Edmond, who was inducted in the Heidelberg University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021 as an SID.
Rory Farmer Named Assistant AD for Facilities and Operations
Rory Farmer returns to Bowling Green as the Assistant AD for Facilities and Operations. A two-time Bowling Green graduate, Farmer previously served as an events and operations intern with BGSU from Fall 2023 to Fall 2024 as well as being the events and operations assistant during the 2024-25 academic year. During her first tenure with Bowling Green, she aided in the process of interviewing, hiring, supervising and payroll for student game attendant staff. Farmer earned her bachelor's degree from Bowling Green in 2024 followed by her MBA in 2025. She started in her new position with BGSU on June 30.
Farmer rejoins the Falcons after spending the last year at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) where she worked as an associate director of facilities and event management. With UNCW, she oversaw baseball and volleyball gameday operations, as well as the facilities for those programs. With UNCW, Farmer oversaw interns each semester as well as handled the coordinating of practice, travel forms, team guides and facility preparation for both Hanover Hall Gymnasium and Brooks Field. In addition to her time with UNCW and Bowling Green, Farmer also worked with the Toledo Mud Hens and Walleye from March 2023 until July 2024.Â
Kerrie Turner Promoted to Associate AD for Student-Athlete Services
Kerrie Turner will be promoted to Associate AD for Student-Athlete Services at Bowling Green. Now entering her 20th year at Bowling Green, Turner transitioned into student-athlete services as an assistant AD in July 2024 after serving as the head gymnastics coach at Bowling Green for 17 seasons. Turner's promotion comes as part of a re-organization within the student-athlete services department.
Since joining student-athlete services in July 2024, Turner has been serving as the academic lead for multiple programs, aiding in BGSU producing record numbers academically as an institution, including a MAC-leading nine programs with a 1,000 multiyear APR score and a 996 department APR. Turner has also been responsible for the creation of programming focused on a holistic education approach for student-athletes, specifically in career preparedness, Title IX, Hazing Prevention and NIL education.Â
