SETTING THE SCENE / FOLLOW THE FALCONS
• The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team returns to the road for a weekend match in Western Pennsylvania. Head coach Eric Nichols and the Falcons head to Erie to meet Mercyhurst University on Saturday night (Sept. 19), with first touch set for 6:00 p.m. at Saxon Stadium.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will return home for next weekend's Missouri Valley Conference opener against Western Michigan University. That match, part of the program's Alumni Weekend, is set for Friday (Sept. 25) at 7:00 p.m., and admission – as is the case for all of BGSU's home matches – is free.
TODAY'S PAGE-ONE-WORTHY NOTES
• BGSU's starting lineup has included at least three freshmen in every match this season to date. In fact, the Falcons have had at least four frosh in the Starting XI in six of the first seven matches.
• So far this season, no fewer than eight different Falcons each have made the first start of their respective collegiate careers.
THE TEAMS / THE SERIES
• The Falcons are 1-5-1 on the season. Four of BGSU's five setbacks came after the match was scoreless through at least 75 minutes. BG's last match was a 1-0 heartbreaker at Milwaukee on Tuesday (Sept. 15), as the Panthers scored with just one second remaining. The Falcons have allowed 12 goals this season, and nine have come in the 76th minute or later.
• Freshman Lucas Brinkman leads the team in scoring, with two goals and five points. In goal, senior Enzo Gil has started all seven matches, and has 21 saves and a 1.71 goals-against average.
• Mercyhurst is 3-2-2 on the season, after a 1-0 win at Robert Morris on Monday afternoon (Sept. 14). The Lakers have also defeated Cleveland State and Canisius, while tying Detroit Mercy and Niagara. The team's losses have come at the hands of Penn State (Aug. 20) and Drexel (Aug. 23). Since the 2-0 loss to Drexel, the Lakers have gone 3-0-2 in the last five matches. Alvar Silva leads the team with four goals and nine points this season to date, and has two game-winning goals. Jaime Tedaldi has started six of the seven matches in goal for head coach Austin Solomon, and has 25 saves, two shutouts and a 1.50 GAA.
• Saturday's match will be the first-ever meeting between BGSU and Mercyhurst in men's soccer.
