LOEFFLER:Â Good afternoon, thanks for coming. I want to start it off by congratulating our team, number one, and then number two, Demetrius Hardamon on receiving the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week. He played really well. Super excited to get this week going and looking forward to the next challenge up in Mount Pleasant.
QUESTION: Saturday felt like you won the game in the trenches. How have you worked to make that part of your identity?
LOEFFLER:Â It's been a work in progress for sure. I think our defensive line is very good and our offensive line played to their potential. I thought the running backs ran well, thought the game plan was exceptional, and we found a way to beat a very good team.
QUESTION: How have you seen the running back group develop?
LOEFFLER: They were put in a tough situation coming into the season. We knew that each of them were gonna play a part, but not to the extent that they all are now because of Terion. I thought they really played well as a unit. All of them did. They ran the ball hard. I thought Jaison Patterson played his best game. I thought he was very good. They did their job and Coach White’s a really good running backs coach, and they responded to last week's challenge.
QUESTION: Was it more of a complete game than in the last few weeks?
LOEFFLER:Â Yeah, I thought it was. In the Marshall game, we had to throw it around to win. This game, we felt at the beginning of the game that we would have to throw it a little bit more than we anticipated, but we started running the ball well. The few things that we put in differently were working. The defense was playing great. Running the ball was the best thing at that time to win the game.
QUESTION: How do you attack this week going to Central Michigan?
LOEFFLER: I put the challenge out. This is a really good team that we're going up against, really well coached. They know how to win. It's very similar to Miami. They're a good team and going up there is very difficult to play. It's normally cold and windy but thank goodness we are supposed to have nice weather. We gotta go play our best game. Just like I've said, it doesn't matter who we play anymore. This league is chaotic. It's crazy. Each week, you’ve got to bring your A-game. If not, you're going to get your tail kicked in. We've got to have a really good week of practice. We need to eliminate some mistakes. We need to catch the ball better. That was the one negative on offense. We just didn't catch the ball very well. I think Matt should’ve been 23-of-29 if we just catch the football. We need to clean up some things in the red area. We need to start scoring touchdowns down there and keep playing good defense.
QUESTION: What's it like having back-to-back home games and going out on the road for that final Saturday?
LOEFFLER:Â Saturday is our last game of the second season, as we would call it, the regular college football. Then for the next month, we don't know what day it is, what time it is, what month it is. It's different, so this is a great opportunity to see how mature our team is and how much they can move the needle of our program going up to a play a really good Central Michigan team.
QUESTION: How have you seen Demetrius Hardamon progress this year?
LOEFFLER: It's not just watching him progress this year. He is a guy that totally is self-made. He wasn't big enough, wasn't strong enough. He literally sat at the Oaks Dining and ate all day and studied all day, and when he wasn't doing that, he was down here lifting weights and working on his trade. He's a guy, last year, that I look out and after a game, he's out there working on his technique. He’s infatuated with football, he's a very good student, so we're happy that he was able to help our team win last week.
