Mark Shook, an Ohio native and a graduate of BGSU, begins his first year as Asst. Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services. has already begun his duties at BGSU.

Shook, a native of Rittman, Ohio, comes to BG after four years as an academic support services advisor in the department of athletics at Purdue University. He assumed that role in August of 2002, and in the summer of 2005 was named an associate director of academic support services. Shook was the lead academic advisor for the Boilermakers[apos] football student-athletes, and also served that role for men[apos]s basketball as well as for numerous Olympic sports during his tenure.

In July of 2006, Shook received the Professional Promise Award for Region III from the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A). The award honors professionals serving student-athletes who have continuous membership of one year to no more than five years; extraordinary service to the N4A at the regional and/or national level; and outstanding performance as an academic advisor, life skills coordinator and/or administrator.
Prior to his tenure at Purdue, Shook spent a year as an academic mentor in the Student-Athlete Support Services office at Ohio State.
Shook spent nearly a decade as a high-school teacher and coach in Ohio, in Lexington, Orrville and Creston. Shook was at Orrville from 1992-95 before spending the next seven years at Lexington. He was the head baseball coach at Lexington from 1997-2000, and also was an assistant football coach. At Orrville, he coached baseball, football and girls basketball.
Shook earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from BGSU in 1992. He received a Master[apos]s of Education degree in sport education from Ashland University in 2001.
