Gardner completed his first season with the BGSU men's basketball program in 2018-19. Gardner came to Bowling Green after a successful playing career at Division II power University of Findlay.

Gardner appeared in 94 games as an Oiler over 2013-18, which includes his senior year in 2017-18 in which he started in 30 games for a team that went 28-5 and reached the Midwest Region Championship. Gardner, a two-time captain and three-year starter at Findlay, played in three NCAA Tournaments, including two trips to the Sweet 16. While at UF, the Oilers won a pair of regular-season conference titles, on top of a conference tournament championship.

Gardner attended Toledo St. John’s Jesuit before arriving at the University of Findlay. A native of Bowling Green, Ohio, Gardner earned his undergraduate degree in Sport and Event Management from UF. He also earned a graduate degree from Findlay in Education Human Resource Development with an emphasis on leadership.
