Former BGSU softball standout Courtney Cox is in her first season as an assistant coach with the Falcons in 2015, after serving as a volunteer coach in 2014. Cox will primarily work with catchers, baserunning, and assist with hitting for the Orange and Brown. Cox played four seasons under head coach Shannon Salsburg from 2010-13, playing the majority of her time on the field as a catcher.
“I am excited to have Courtney on staff and working with our catchers and baserunners daily. What makes Courtney a good coach is her attention to the little things,” said Salsburg. “As a catcher, Courtney was a key piece to our pitching staff’s improvement during her time. She demanded more of her pitchers, and as a coach, she will not only teach that leadership to her catchers, but will look to strengthen all aspects of our game behind the plate.”
Cox, who will work with the baserunners on a daily basis, was a valuable threat on the bases for the Falcons in 2012. Cox scored 13 runs and was perfect on stolen base attempts throughout the season.
“I am also excited to have Courtney take over baserunning,” Salsburg said. “Courtney was a very opportunistic baserunner, using good reads and instincts to become one of the best we had during her playing career. We felt her presence with the team in that aspect right away, and I expect our baserunning to continue to improve steadily this year.”
Cox graduated from Bowling Green in 2013, earning a bachelors degree in exercise science. She currently resides in Bowling Green, Ohio.
