Taylor Jones begins her second year as an assistant coach for the BGSU gymnastics team, joining the Falcons in the summer of 2012. She serves as the Falcons' main balance beam coach.
In her first year with the program, Jones helped the Falcons' to one of their finest seasons in history. Among her greatest accomplishments is coaching freshman Alyssa Nocella to the 2013 MAC balance beam title. She also coached the Falcons to the second-highest beam score at the MAC Championships. Bowling Green finished the year ranked fourth in the MAC on beam with a season-high score of 48.725.
With the help of Jones, the Falcons achieved three of the program's highest scores since 2005 - 194.5, 194.525 and 195.175. The latter is the sixth-highest score in BGSU history. The team also finished third in the MAC regular season, with a 3-3 record against conference opponents and a final regional qualifying score of 194.125.
Jones comes to Bowling Green after completing her own collegiate gymnastics career at Ohio State University, where she competed from 2009-12. Jones served as co-captain of the Buckeyes during the 2011-12 seasons. Â
In her senior year, she led the Buckeyes to their first NCAA Championship appearance since 1990, competing on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise for the team. By the end of her career, Ohio State was a top-10 gymnastics program. Â
In 2009, Jones received Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors, becoming the first Ohio State gymnast to earn the award. She was also recognized that year with the Coaches Award and the title of Most Dedicated Gymnast.
Prior to college, Jones trained at the Dynamo gymnastics club, the same program that produced Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller. While there, she won the Oklahoma state all-around title six times. Â
Jones brings valuable insight to BGSU with her record of success in club and collegiate gymnastics. She also gained leadership experience as a coach and counselor at Ohio State's gymnastics camps from 2009-12, coaching high-level gymnasts on all four events.
Jones graduated from Ohio State in 2012 with a degree in criminology.
