Ernest “Bubby” Leasure is in his first season as assistant coach of the BGSU women's soccer team. Leasure, who has worked at Hartwick and Olivet, began his duties at BGSU on April 4, 2012.
“I am thrilled to have Bubby join the Falcon family,” said Evans at the time of Leasure's hiring. “Bubby brings a wealth of soccer knowledge and we share a similar vision. His passion for the game is infectious and his integrity makes him a positive role model for the team. Bowling Green Women’s Soccer will only benefit from his work ethic, and I am excited to have Bubby on my staff.”
Leasure came to BGSU after spending the 2011 season as assistant coach at Hartwick College under head coach Matt Verni. Prior to his season with the Hawks, he spent three years at Olivet (Mich.) College. After two years as assistant coach for the Comets, Leasure was promoted to associate head coach in 2010, helping head coach Hans Morgan’s team to a 13-5-2 record. That was the second-best record in program history and marked a seven-game improvement over the previous season.
Additionally, the Comets went 4-3-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play in the 2010 season, the program’s first winning conference record in nearly a decade.
While at Olivet, Leasure also was an assistant coach with the men’s program, helping OC’s goalkeeper, Ethan Felsing, earn All-MIAA First-Team honors in both 2008 and ‘09.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Falcon family and I’m excited to get started, said Leasure. “Matt Verni and Hans Morgan both played a major role in helping me develop as a coach. I would also like to thank BGSU administration for this wonderful opportunity.”
In addition to his duties at Hartwick during the past year, Leasure also served as an assistant coach/goalkeeper coach for Binghamton United FC of the Women’s Premier Soccer League. He also has experience as goalkeeper coach for both the TNT Dynamite Soccer Club in Lansing, Mich., from 2008-10 and the Countryside Youth Soccer Association in Tampa, Fla., from 2006-08. Additionally, he was the head girls soccer coach at Lansing Eastern H.S.
Leasure earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from the University of South Florida in 2000. He was a goalkeeper on the USF men’s soccer team, earning Conference USA Player-of-the-Week honors on two occasions.
