Joanna Line began as an assistant coach at Bowling Green in 2016 after serving as an assistant cross country and track and field coach at Smith College for the previous two years. Prior to Smith, Line was an assistant coach for cross country at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences for one season.
Line graduated from Oberlin College with bachelors degrees in biology and French. She also earned several athletic honors at Oberlin College including NCAC Cross Country Runner of the Year three times as well as NCAC Mid/Distance MVP in both indoor track and outdoor track. Line was awarded the Great Lakes Region Women's Athlete of the Year in 2008 and 2010, and earned a total of seven NCAA All-American honors in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track during her tenure. After graduating, Line trained and competed with teams around the world, in countries including Ethiopia, France, Norway, and Singapore, while researching women’s empowerment through running as a Watson Fellow.Â
Line earned her master's degree in exercise and sport studies at Smith College. She continues to train and compete as a member of the Second Sole Racing Team. Since her marathon debut in 2012, Line has run six marathons with a personal best time of 2:48.
