Marissa Beucler begins her third season with the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team in 2019.Â
Â
The 2018 season was one of unprecedented individual success in the program. Jovannah East became the first Falcon to compete in the all-around competition at the NCAA National Championship and just the second BGSU gymnast to qualify in any event. The team placed third at the MAC Championships (the program’s third consecutive top-three finish) and East shared the MAC Championship on vault.
Â
In 2017, the Falcons broke their MAC Championship record set just the year prior with a team score of 196.400. BGSU was the MAC runner-up, trailing Central Michigan by just .100 in the final team standings. It was the first time the team had finished that high at the MAC Championship since 1987.
Beucler arrived at BGSU following a season as gymnastics coach with Capital City Athletics. With Capital City, Beucler coached Level 3 through Level 10 gymnasts and completed detailed workout plans and scheduling for her gymnasts. She also served as the squad's Social Media and Marketing Manager.
She also has experience teaching gymnastics to youth from age 7 to 16 and acrobatics to youth from age 2 to 16.Â
Beucler is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, where she competed from 2012-2016 on the Wildcats' gymnastics team for head coach Tim Garrison. As a freshman in 2013, Beucler won the beam competition in her first collegiate meet (9.825), as UK upset No. 9 Arkansas. At the SEC Championships, she competed on the floor for the first time and earned a 9.725; she also posted a personal-best 9.750 on vault at that meet.
As a junior in 2015, Beucler participated in ten meets for Kentucky, including two as an all-around competitor. She posted team-best scores on the bars four times and once each on the vault and the all-around. At the SEC Championships, she earned season-best scores of 9.825 (floor) and 9.800 (vault) en route to a 39.125 all-around score.Â
Beucler competed in all 13 meets as a senior during the 2016 season. She was anchor on the uneven bars and scored a 9.875 in a victory over Missouri; she also posted a season-best 9.800 on vault during that meet. She earned three event titles on uneven bars, each with a 9.875. At the NCAA Regional in Tuscaloosa, she scored a 9.800 on bars. Her efforts helped UK to the second- and third-highest scores in team history in back-to-back weeks against Arkansas and Florida.
Beucler was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll honoree and was twice named Academic All-American (2015, 2016). She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism.
