Abby Nakfoor embarks upon her second season as video coordinator with the Bowling Green State University women's basketball program in 2020-21. Nakfoor joined head coach Robyn Fralick's staff after a four-year playing career at Ferris State University.
"We are so excited to add Abby to our staff," said Fralick at the time of Nakfoor's hiring. "She adds an incredible work ethic, positivity and a wonderful ability to 'figure it out'.  Her daily enthusiasm, coupled with her work ethic, makes us all better. We are fortunate to add her to our Bowling Green family. "
In Nakfoor's first season in Northwest Ohio, the Falcons continued hammering away in a quest to return to the upper echelons of the MAC standings. Eleven of BGSU's 21 total losses were by nine points or less. Four of those 11 – as well as an additional loss (by 10 points) – came in overtime.
A total of 19 of BG's 21 setbacks in 2019-20 were within eight points at some point in the fourth quarter. Fourteen of them were four-point games or closer with under eight minutes to go. And, no fewer than 10 were within two (or fewer) points within the last two minutes of regulation.
BGSU, 10-21 on the season, outscored opponents, 2241-2239, in the 31 games.
In 2019-20, the Falcons averaged 72.3 points per game. BGSU had not averaged as many as 70 ppg in nine years. The Brown and Orange scored 75 or more points in a game 14 times on the year, the program's highest since the 2010-11 team also had 14 games of 75-plus points en route to 28 wins. No team had had more since the 2009-10 team reached the 75-point plateau 15 times.
The Falcons ranked among the national leaders in assists in '19-20. BGSU, after ranking among the bottom-10 schools in NCAA Division I in 2017-18, dished out 502 assists, an average of 16.2 per game, in 2019-20. BGSU ranked 27th in the country in total helpers and 25th in assists per contest.
"I'm so thankful for the opportunity to learn from this staff and team," said Nakfoor at the time of her hiring. "I've faced these coaches as a player many times and have always admired their leadership and knowledge of the game. I feel extremely lucky to be a part of the culture they're building at Bowling Green. So far I've loved every second and also felt so much love from the team and the rest of the staff."
Nakfoor, a native of DeWitt, Mich., played in a total of 106 games at FSU during her four-year career. She averaged 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per contest with the Bulldogs, shooting nearly 82 percent from the free-throw line. Nakfoor helped the Bulldogs reached the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament semifinals in her junior year and the league tourney quarterfinals as a senior.
Nakfoor earned three letters at DeWitt H.S., helping the team advance all the way to the state championship game as a senior. She averaged 12.2 points and 5.2 boards that season, as the Panthers claimed league, district and regional crowns on the way to the state title contest. A two-time all-conference player, she was named to the Associated Press and Detroit Free Press Class A All-State teams in her senior season.
Nakfoor also competed in volleyball and track & field, earning all-region honors in volleyball and helping that team to conference and district titles in her senior season.
Nakfoor rounded out a staff that includes Fralick, associate head coach Kim Cameron, assistant coaches Maria Kasza and Joel Whymer and director of operations Monique Rosati. Five of the six staff members are natives of the state of Michigan.
