BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Fred Chmiel has announced the addition of Carolina Silva to the program. Silva, a 6-2 center, will join the Falcon family for the 2026-27 academic year.
Silva, a native of Portugal, has played for Quinta dos Lombos in Portuguese Liga Feminina in the 2025-26 season. She has averaged 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 15.0 minutes per game in 2025-26, as the team went 20-2 and won the regular-season title. Quinta dos Lombos swept both Sporting Clube de Portugal Lisboa and GDESSA/BARREIRO in the best-of-three quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, respectively, and advanced to the finals against Sport Lisboa Benfica earlier this month.
Silva has represented her home country in multiple competitions, including in the FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket Division B in 2024, when she averaged 20.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in seven contests. She also played in the FIBA U18 Women's EuroBasket that same season.
The year prior (2023), Silva averaged a double-double in the FIBA U16 Women's European Championship, with 16.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg. She played in that same tournament the previous year, and had 8.0 points and 5.3 boards per game.
"We are extremely grateful that Carolina has chosen BGSU," said Chmiel. "With her success internationally she was highly coveted both overseas and here in the U.S. Carolina is a three-level scorer and polished competitor who will have a great impact on our roster."
