Alva Bachman

Alva Bachman was a longtime friend and contributor to Bowling Green athletics. A 1918 graduate of Oberlin College, Bachman recieved a degree in physical education. In 1924, Bachman obtained a law degree from Ohio State University. Bachman set up practice in Bowling Green, where he was the dean of legal profession. He began serving as the head finish judge at Bowling Green track meets in 1927, and worked in that capacity for over 40 years. Alva Bachman served as Bowling Green's mayor for 10 years, and was elected to the BGSU board of trustees in 1945. Bachman served 20 years as the secretary of the board of trustees. Bachman was the university representative on many athletic trips, including a 1947 trip to the football game against William and Mary, the 1954 National Invitational, and the 1961 Mercy Bowl. Bachman was named to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1968, and passed away in January of 1988.
