Staples Soars to Top-40 Division I Mark in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Bianca Staples etched her name into the Bowling Green record books and the national leaderboard at the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational, headlining a two-day performance that saw the Falcons collect a wave of personal and season bests across multiple events.
Staples led the way in the triple jump Saturday with a personal-best leap of 12.86 meters to finish fourth in the event. The mark ranks No. 36 in Division I and stands as the third-best performance in program history. Sabrina Imes added a season-best 12.56m, good for No. 83 nationally, and Kiera Bonds rounded out the trio with an 11.97m effort.
The sprint corps made its presence felt on the track as well. Morgan Patterson, Kiersten Franklin, Bonds and Reagan Campbell combined for a 45.72 in the 4x100-meter relay Saturday, tying the fourth-best time in program history.
Campbell turned in the strongest individual track performance of the weekend, posting a personal-best 54.87 in the 400 meters to place fourth. Tyyetta Herman also broke her personal record in the event with a 55.84 for 13th place, and Syerra Greber chipped in a personal-best 56.70 as well.
On Friday, the Falcons opened competition with a pair of personal-best 200-meter performances. Campbell clocked a 24.43 and Herman followed with a 24.64. Alexsia Davis set a personal record in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:02.25, while Christabelle Obi ran a 1:03.01 in the same event.
Saturday's action also included strong showings from Patterson and Franklin in the 100 meters. Franklin crossed in 11.67 for eighth place, a season best, while Bonds posted a season-best 11.96. In the 100-meter hurdles, Patterson finished 11th in 14.00 and DaMya Barker was 17th in 14.05, with Obi adding a season-best 14.47.
In the heptathlon, Jenna Lucas posted marks across three disciplines. Lucas ran a 2:44.52 in the 800 meters, threw the javelin 34.18m and recorded a 12.66m long jump to finish second in that segment.
