Bowling Green State University head women's basketball coach Dee Knoblauch has announced the addition of assistant coach Shonda Stampley to the Falcon staff. Stampley comes to BGSU after spending two years as the top assistant coach at Eastern Illinois University.
Stampley, who has already started her new job at BGSU, will work primarily with the post players. She also will be the recruiting coordinator for the Falcon staff.
Stampley, a 1990 graduate of Nicholls State (La.) University, brings 10 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Falcon staff. Prior to her two-year stint at EIU, she spent seven years as an assistant coach at Wisconsin-Stevens Point. During that time, UWSP made two appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Stampley began her coaching career as a student assistant at her alma mater. She spent one year in that role at Nicholls State after a stellar playing career.
As a student-athlete, Stampley led NSU in both scoring and rebounding in each of her final three years at the school. She was team captain as well as team MVP in each of those three years. In addition to her four letters in basketball, she earned three monograms in both volleyball and track.
A native of Baton Rouge, La., Stampley received her bachelor's degree in general studies from NSU in 1990. She received her master's degree in counseling and human development from Wisconsin-Stevens Point in 1998.
"We are very excited about the addition to our staff," said Knoblauch. "Shonda has a great deal of playing and coaching experience, and she will be great working with our post players as well as in the recruiting process."
The Falcons went 13-14 overall last season, including a 9-7 Mid-American Conference mark. BGSU's 1999-2000 campaign begins Nov. 20 at Youngstown State, with the home opener set for two nights later vs. St. Bonaventure.
