Women's Basketball Among Nation's Elite In Several Categories

The NCAA has released the latest Division I women's basketball statistics, and Bowling Green State University is listed in a number of categories. As a team, the Falcons continue to lead the nation in three-point field goals made per game, with an average of 8.4 (NCAA stats through games of Monday, Jan. 10). Through 13 contests this season, BGSU had made 109 three-pointers for an average of 8.4 per game. BG made seven treys last night (Jan. 11) at Toledo, giving the team 116 (8.3 avg.). The Falcons are well on their way to shattering the school single-season record of 135, set just last year. BGSU is also 13th in the nation in free-throw percentage, with a success rate of .752. Following the UT game, that percentage has increased to .754 (184-of-244).
Individually, junior Angie Farmer (Wayland, Mich./Union) ranks among the national leaders in three-point field goals made per game. Farmer had made 38 in 13 contests, an average of 2.9 successful treys per outing. That average ties her for 14th in the nation. Farmer hit another "three" last night at Toledo, so her average now stands at 2.8 treys per contest.
Sophomore Francine Miller (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida) was 19th in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage, with a success rate of .477. Miller was held to a 1-of-6 three-point effort at UT, and her three-point pct. is now .440.
The NCAA Division I statistics are released each week (generally late Tuesday or early Wednesday) during the season. National stats will be released each week through March 4.
BGSU is 3-11 overall, and 1-3 in Mid-American Conference play, heading into Saturday's (Jan. 15) contest at Ohio University. The Falcons then head to Kent for a Monday (Jan. 17) tilt, before returning home to face Western Michigan on Jan. 20. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m. at BG's venerable Anderson Arena.
