
Men's Basketball Team Comes From Behind To Beat Miami

The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team extended its home winning streak to 11 games with a come-from-behind 68-63 victory over Miami Wednesday night at Anderson Arena. The Falcons led for only nine minutes of the game, but it was the last nine minutes.
BG scored the first basket of the game and then trailed until knotting the score at 47-all at the 9:10 mark of the second half. After Anthony Taylor converted a lay up for Miami, Keith McLeod put the Falcons ahead for good with a three-pointer at the 6:36 mark.
McLeod's points started a 10-0 run for BG which put the game away. Dave Esterkamp followed with a lay up at 6:10, Len Matela converted a lay up and free throw at 4:58, and another Matela lay up at 3:55 completed the run and the Falcons led 57-49 with 3:55 left.
Two McLeod jumpers kept the advantage at eight points and Bowling Green converted seven-of-eight free tosses down the stretch to secure the win.
Miami led by as many as 10 points on two occasions early in the first half. Their biggest lead in the second half was eight points at 41-33 at the 15:13 mark.
Anthony Stacey led the Falcons with 20 points while McLeod added 14 markers, all 14 in the second half, and Matela added 13 points.
With four steals in the game, Stacey increased his career total to 205 becoming the school leader replacing David Jenkins at the top of the charts. Jenkins had 201 thefts in his career.
There were only 17 turnovers in the games, nine by Miami. BG shot 73.7% from the floor in the second half converting 14-of-19 shots.
Rob Mestas led the RedHawks with 20 points.
The Falcons improved to 14-3 overall and 6-1 in the MAC. They will now be idle until facing Kent on the road on Jan. 26.
