The following weekend (Sept. 24-26), BG will participate in the Florida International Classic (Miami, FL). The Falcons will play Penn State at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, and Southern Methodist at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to the NSCAA rankings released on Sept. 7, the Nittany Lions were fourth nationally while the Mustangs of SMU were ranked 12th.
THE SERIES ...
Bowling Green leads the all-time series against Xavier with a 6-0-0 mark. The Falcons won the last meeting, 3-0, in 1997. It marked BG's third shutout of the Musketeers in six tries.

Xavier is coming off an 11-9 campaign last season and began the 1999 campaign with a 3-0 win at Wright State on Sept. 5 and a 1-0 loss versus Louisville on Sept. 8. The Musketeers suffered a 4-1 setback at Dayton last night (Sept. 12) in the Atlantic 10 opener for both squads. XU will visit Evansville on Wednesday before heading to Rochester Hills, Michigan. Jack Hermanns (St. Olof of Holland, '79) has compiled a 68-83-12 record in his ninth year at the helm of the XU program. Sophomore Sam Fiore has scored two of the Musketeers four goals, while junior goalkeeper Paul Wesseling has a 1.72 goals- against average in 262 minutes.
LOOKING BACK AT LAST WEEK ...
The Braves scored twice in the first half and Bradley's preseason All-American Gavin Glinton completed his hat trick with two second half markers. BG's lone goal was scored off a free kick by senior midfielder Chris Dore with two minutes remaining in the match.
BG tested Bradley goalkeeper Adam Gross, who made 10 saves, while Falcon 'keeper Ty Fowler was credited with five stops.
Bowling Green had its losing streak extended two games with a 4-2 loss to Tulsa on Sunday.
The Golden Hurricanes took a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by Ted Figard at 23:01 and 26:35. The Falcons battled back after intermission to tie the game at two on Mike Tinajero's first collegiate goal at 50:22, and Bobby Biggs' second marker of the campaign at 57:42. Biggs assisted on Tinajero's goal, while Detrick Matthews and Fred Degand garnered assists on Biggs' goal.
Figard completed his hat trick at 79:41, and following a 47-minute delay due to lightning, Tulsa added an insurance goal at 88:18 by Chris Spears.
BG senior goalkeeper Ty Fowler made nine saves, while Jeff McKeever and Brent Salter combined for nine saves in the Tulsa net.

Senior Chris Dore and junior Fred Degand were named to the Holiday Inn City Centre Classic All-Tournament team hosted by Bradley University this past weekend.
Senior Bobby Biggs leads the squad with three assists this year, one shy of his career high set in 1997. Biggs had seven career assists in 59 matches prior to this season.
Former Falcon goalkeeper Scott Vallow compiled a 9-5 record in 14 starts for U.S. Pro-40 with a 1.19 goals-against average and five shutouts. He stopped 67 of 84 shots in 1,290 minutes between the pipes in leading U.S. Pro-40 to a 17-11 regular-season mark. All 28 contests were on the road.
Bowling Green allowed eight goals this past weekend marking the first time since the last game of the 1993 season (a 6-1 loss at Michigan State) and the first game of the 1994 campaign (a 3-2 loss to Loyola-Baltimore), that the Falcons had allowed at least a total of eight goals in back-to-back games.
It was also the first time in the same season since the opening two games of the 1985 season (a 5-4 OT loss to Adelphi and a 4-2 loss to Massachusetts) that BG allowed at least a total of eight goals in back-to-back games.
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team will take a 3-2 record into its two matches this weekend (Sept. 18-19) at the Global Soccer Classic hosted by Oakland University (Rochester Hills, MI). The Falcons will face Central Florida at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and Xavier at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The match with Central Florida on Sept. 18 will be the first in Falcon soccer history.
In this week's Great Lakes Region poll (released Sept. 13), BG was rated ninth, while Akron was ranked second and Kentucky sixth.
The Golden Knights of Central Florida were picked second in the 1999 Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) Preseason Coaches Poll. UCF is coming off a school-best 13-7 mark in 1998 in which forward Heikki Ritvanen, a second team 1999 Preseason All-American by College Soccer Online, finished third in NCAA Division I goal scoring with 24 markers (1.26 gpg). Seventh-year head coach Bob Winch (Pembroke State, '85) has compiled a 55-51-5 record in Orlando. The Golden Knights were idle this past weekend. UCF opened the season with two home victories over Long Island University-Brooklyn (4-1) and Georgia Southern (7-1) on Sept. 3 and 5.
The Falcons suffered their first setback of the 1999 season on Saturday by dropping a 4-1 decision at Bradley.
Junior Chris Kraft and sophomore Detrick Matthews each made their first start of the season, and fourth career start, in Saturday's loss at Bradley.
