Men's Soccer Battles Michigan State To 1-1 (2-OT) Tie

The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team, ranked 10th in this week's Great Lakes Region poll, battled Michigan State to a 1-1 double overtime tie Tuesday afternoon at BG's Mickey Cochrane Field.
The Spartans, ranked sixth in this week's Great Lakes Region poll, came into the match with a 10-5-1 overall record, but Falcon junior Kevin Wisniewski netted his first goal of the campaign off an assist from Benjamin Vaccaro at the 29:07 mark.
MSU scored the equalizer at the 76:39 mark when Nick DeGraw's header off a corner kick by Steve Arce went in just under the crossbar and over the outstretched arms of BG goalkeeper Michael Began.
Began, a redshirt freshman and playing in his first collegiate game, went into the match at the 17:55 mark when David DeGraff was injured. DeGraff made one save in the contest, while Began stopped six of seven MSU shots. Spartan goalkeeper T.J. Lieckfelt made nine saves.
MSU held a 22-21 advantage in total shots while BG led in shots on goal 10-8. The Spartans had the upper hand in corner kicks, 12-8, in match that saw 53 fouls (28 on BG, 25 on MSU) and six yellow cards.
The Falcons will take an 8-7-1 overall record into Sunday's Mid-American Conference semifinal match. BG will be playing the 2:30 contest against a Friday quarterfinal winner. The MAC quarterfinals on Friday and semifinals on Sunday will be held at the University at Buffalo.
