CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University junior Francine Miller (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida) has been named to the preseason All-Mid-American Conference team for women's basketball, the league office has announced. Voting for the five-player team was conducted by members of the MAC News Media Association.
Miller, the lone sophomore on the 1999-2000 All-MAC First Team, became only the second soph in school history to earn all-league first-team honors, joining the legendary Jackie Motycka.
Miller led the Falcons with 17.1 points per game last year, and set a school single-season record with a three-point field-goal percentage of .453. She also led the Brown and Orange in field-goal percentage (.468) and free-throw accuracy (.856), and ranked second on the club in rebounding (7.0 rpg), assists (2.4 apg) and steals (1.6 spg).
Miller is joined on the preseason All-MAC team by Buffalo senior Tiffany Bell, Akron senior Cheryl Bowles, Western Michigan sophomore Kristin Koetsier and Eastern Michigan junior Stephanie Smiley. The five players are scheduled to appear at the MAC Basketball Media Day in Cleveland on Oct. 18.
BGSU opens the 2000-2001 campaign with an exhibition game against the Premier All-Stars on Wednesday, Nov. 1. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m. at BGSU's venerable Anderson Arena. The Falcons of third-year head coach Dee Knoblauch begin the regular season Nov. 18, hosting Youngstown State in a 2:00 p.m. start.
