MAC HISTORY RUNS DEEP FOR BG, MIAMI
The Falcons, who are in their 49th season as a conference member, rank second in MAC history in conference wins (201) and championships (10). Their .618 winning percentage ranks third all-time. Miami, which is in its 53rd season in the MAC, leads in wins (216), championships (13) and winning percentage (.668). BGSU has finished first or second in the conference in 21 of their previous 48 seasons in the league.
MIAMI OWNS RARE EDGE OVER FALCONS
Entering the 2000 season, Miami was the only MAC school to post a winning record over the Falcons. The RedHawks are 34-18-5 against BGSU in the team's previous 57 meetings. The RedHawks are 18-9-1 against the Falcons in Oxford and are looking to post their first three-game winning streak in the series since winning eight in a row against BG from 1973-80. Miami took a 45-31 victory last year in BG and captured a 24-12 triumph in 1998. BGSU Coach Gary Blackney is 6-3 against Miami, and has a 3-1 record at Yager Stadium.
KEY WEAPONS RETURN TO LINEUP
The Falcon offense has had three preseason starters return in the last two weeks. Senior center Eric Curl (26 career starts) returned from a broken left foot, junior wide receiver Kurt Gerling (24 consecutive games with a catch) came back from a broken collarbone he suffered against Michigan, and junior wide receiver Aaron Alexander played a full game after battling a lingering knee cap injury throughout the season.
SOMETHING IS STILL MISSING
Godfrey Lewis, RB, stress fracture (4 games missed)
Andre Davis, SS, torn ACL (6 games missed)
Mitch Hewitt, LB, torn ACL (3 games missed)
Emmanuel Hendrix, CB, shoulder (2 games missed)
Joe Alls, RB, ankle/knee (1 game missed)
THEY HAVE STEPPED UP
With the rash of injuries, the Falcons have relied heavilty on a pair of little known juniors in running back John Gibson and wide receiver David Bautista. Both were viewed as the team's third option at their respective positions during the preseason. Gibson, a product of Columbus Beechcroft High School, is coming off a career-best 35-carry, 149-yard rushing effort against Akron. Over the last three games, Gibson is averaging 97.3 yards per game and 4.1 yards per carry. Bautista, a transfer from Cerritos College, is 8th in the country and second in the MAC in receptions at 6.83 per game. He has caught 41 of the teams 84 pass receptions and has a team-high 496 receiving yards.
FALCONS REMEMBER SHARPIE
The Falcons will wear a decal for the remainder of the season with the initials GS on their helmet in memory of former equipment manager Glenn Sharp, who passed away October 1. Sharp served the University from 1957-81 and is a member of the BGSU Athletics Hall of Fame. His son, Joe, has served as the Falcons equipment manager since 1981.
