Volleyball Ranked 10th In Region

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The NCAA has released the latest volleyball statistics, and Bowling Green State University student-athletes are represented in several categories. Freshman Susie Norris (Bascom, Ohio/Hopewell-Loudon) and junior Caty Rommeck (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) are ranked in digs and blocks, respectively. The NCAA statistics are current through matches of Nov. 12.
Additionally, the the latest NCAA Mid-East Region rankings are out, and the Falcons are ranked 10th in the region. Wisconsin is the region's top team, while other MAC teams listed include Western Michigan (sixth) and Ball State (ninth). The latest poll (dated Nov. 14) marks the first time this year that the Falcons have been ranked.
In the NCAA statistical rankings, Rommeck, a middle hitter/blocker, is currently 13th in the country in blocks, averaging 1.53 blocks per game. Nebraska's Amber Holmquist leads the nation with 1.92 blocks per game.
Norris, a left-side hitter, is ranked 14th nationally with 4.24 digs per game. She is the top freshman in the country in that category. Rider's Evette Hoeffner paces the country with 5.55 digs per contest.
As a team, the Falcons are ranked 11th in the nation in digs, with an average of 19.05 per game. Cal State Northridge averages a national-best 20.75 digs per game.
The Falcons (19-8 overall, 11-6 MAC) of head coach Denise Van De Walle will play two road matches this week to end the regular season. BGSU is at Cleveland State University tonight (Nov. 15) in non-conference play, and the Falcons face the University at Buffalo in Saturday (Nov. 18) action. Start time for each match is set for 7:00 p.m.
A BGSU win at Buffalo Saturday would clinch a top-four seed and a homecourt berth for the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament. The tourney begins early next week.
