Women's Basketball Still On NCAA Three-Point Record Pace

The NCAA has released the latest Division I women's basketball statistics, and Bowling Green State University is listed in no fewer than seven categories. As a team, the Falcons continue to lead the nation in three-point field goals made per game, with an average of 9.50 (NCAA stats through games of Monday, Feb. 21). Through 24 contests this season, BGSU has already shattered a school record by making a total of 228 three-pointers. The "old" school record of 135 successful three-pointers in a season was set just last winter.
That 9.50 treys-per-game figure, if BG can maintain it, would be the highest seasonal average in NCAA Division I history. The 1993-94 South Carolina team is the only team to date to average more than nine successful treys per game, with 9.19 (top-five list below).
Additionally, BGSU is ninth in the nation in free-throw percentage, with a success rate of .761, and 21st in three-point field-goal percentage, at .376.
Individually, junior Angie Farmer ranks among the national leaders in three-point field goals made per game. Farmer, averaging exactly 3.0 treys per game, is tied for sixth in the nation. She has made a school-record 72 triples in 24 contests.
Senior Jaymee Wappes is 18th in the nation in assists, with 6.04 per contest, while sophomore Francine Miller is listed in two categories. Miller is 17th in the nation with a .461 three-point field-goal percentage, and is tied for 30th with a free-throw percentage of .846.
The NCAA Division I statistics are released each week (generally late Tuesday or early Wednesday) during the season. National stats will be released each week through March 4.
BGSU is 8-16 overall, and 6-8 in Mid-American Conference play. The Falcons will conclude the regular season with a pair of road games, at Akron tonight (Feb. 23) and at Buffalo Friday (Feb. 25). The UB game is part of the MAC's television package, and will be aired by Fox Sports Net Ohio, beginning at 8:00 p.m.
