CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green women's basketball standout Francine Miller has been named the Mid-American Conference co-Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office has announced. Miller shares the honor with Ball State's Laurie Kitts.
Miller, a sophomore forward, averaged 19.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in two Falcon road wins last week. She tied for team honors with 17 points in an 84-71 win at Akron Wednesday (Feb. 23), adding three rebounds and three assists. On Friday (Feb. 25), Miller had a team-best 22 points and hit the tying and winning free throws in a 63-62 victory at Buffalo. Miller, who was 12-of-12 from the charity stripe on the week, hit her last two free-throw attempts with just 4.9 seconds remaining in that UB game.
On the week, Miller went 13-of-30 from the floor, for a 43 percent success rate. She helped the Falcons overcome 13-point deficits in each game last week, and helped the Falcons extend the current winning streak to four games entering the MAC Tournament.
The player-of-the-week award is the first such honor in Miller's career.
The Falcons (10-16 overall) finished MAC regular-season play with an 8-8 league record. BGSU, the seventh seed for the MAC Tournament, will host 10th-seeded Ohio University (11-16, 6-10) tonight at BG's venerable Anderson Arena, with start time scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The game will be aired by WBGU-FM 88.1 in the Bowling Green area.
