ORLANDO, Fla. - Junior Jenny Domschot hit another homer as the Bowling Green softball team defeated Buffalo by a 4-2 score Friday night (March 10). The game was played at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
For the Falcons, the win was the team's ninth in a row, the longest streak in seven years and one win shy of the school record. The 1993 team won nine consecutive games from May 7-14, and that same team set the BGSU record with 10-straight wins from April 10-20. The 1993 squad, BGSU's last Mid-Ameican Conference championship team, went 34-18 overall and 26-9 in league play.
The 2000 team's 12-game start (9-3) is the best in school history.
Junior Nikki Rouhana went 3-for-4 on the evening, while classmate Angie Domschot was 2-of-3 with a double. After her two-base hit in the third inning, Carmen Hitterdal sacrificed her to third base, and her twin sister, Jenny, followed with the round-tripper.
Jenny Domschot's homer was her third of the year. The school single-season record for four-baggers is five, set by Amy Lienhardt in 1988 and tied by Lynsey Ebel last spring.
Holly Frantz was 2-for-4 with an RBI Friday night, as BG outhit the Bulls by an 11-3 margin. The Falcons left nine runners on base in the game.
Freshman McKenna Houle earned the win, going four-plus innings. Sophomore Jessie Milosek came on to work out of a fifth-inning jam, and completed the game to earn the save.
The Falcons complete the Florida swing with a Saturday (March 11) doubleheader at Stetson. The first game is set for 11:00 a.m. in DeLand, Fla. Following those games, the team is off until the University of Virginia Who's Hoo Tournament on March 24-25.
