DeLAND, Fla. - Sophomore Jessie Milosek threw a complete-game shutout and the Bowling Green softball team tied the school record for consecutive wins with a 2-0 victory at Stetson Saturday (March 11). The game, the first of a doubleheader, was played at the Sperling Sports Complex in DeLand, Fla.
The Falcons got just three hits in the game, but had two of those hits in the first inning. Junior Angie Domschot led off the game with a single up the middle, and senior Carmen Hitterdal followed by drawing a walk. Hatter pitcher Kelli Lightner retired the next two batters, but Jenny Domschot lashed a two-out double to right-center field to score both her sister and Hitterdal.
The two runs were the only scoring of the game. Milosek, who threw her second shutout of the year, scattered six hits. She worked out of a jam in the first inning, getting the third out with runners on second and third.
Following that frame, Milosek did not allow a runner to advance past second until the seventh inning. After retiring the first two batters of that inning, Milosek allowed a pair of singles, and a BG throwing error on the latter hit placed runners at second and third. Milosek, however, induced SU's Sabrina Isley to hit a grounder back to the pitcher.
The win was the 10th in a row for the Brown and Orange, tying the school record. The previous BG mark was set from April 10-20, 1993. That 1993 team, BGSU's last Mid-American Conference championship squad, went 34-18 overall and 26-9 in league play.
The 2000 team's 13-game start (10-3) is the best in school history.
Following the second game of the Stetson DH, the Falcons are off until the University of Virginia's Who's Hoo Tournament on March 24-25.
