BOWLING GREEN, O. - After a spring practice season full of transition, the BGSU football team is ready to don their new systems in front of Falcon fans tomorrow at Doyt Perry Stadium. The Falcons will take to the field at 1:00 for their annual spring game.
With a new play calling system in place, new offensive coordinator Tom Lichtenberg is anxious to see how his players react. Instead of having someone run the plays in from the sideline, the plays will be signaled from the coaches directly to the quarterback. The quarterback will then refer to his wristbands, which will list the plays.
"In my opinion, this is just a more efficient way to do your play calling," said Lichtenberg. "It saves time, and it allows our top receivers to stay in the game for more snaps."
The players are catching on quickly to the new system, but don't expect to see perfection just yet. It is definitely something that will take time and practice to get used to. Still, it is hoped that mistakes will be kept at a minimom.
"We hope to see good execution of the base offense tomorrow," said Lichtenberg. "Communication from the coaches to the players and amongst the players will be essential."
The game will be set up to give the first and second teams of the offense and defense ample playing time. In the first quarter, the first team offense and defense will take the field. In the second quarter, the second team offense and defense will battle. The third quarter will feature the first team offense and the second team defense, while the fourth quarter will pit the second team offense against the first team defense.
BGSU will not be charging admission to the game.
