KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Western Michigan won five of the six singles matches en route to a 6-1 women's tennis victory over visiting Bowling Green Saturday (April 15). The Mid-American Conference dual match was held at WMU's Sorensen Courts in Kalamazoo, Mich.
The Broncos, now 14-6 overall and 6-1 in MAC dual action, captured wins at the top three singles flights, but BGSU juniors Abby Bratton and Meghan Rhodes provided solid resistance at the top two levels. Bratton lost a three-set match to WMU's Larissa Chinwah at the top flight, while Rhodes extended the Broncos' Cyra Malik to a third set before succumbing.
Senior co-captain Deidee Bissinger provided the lone win for the Falcons, downing Melanie Remynse in straight sets at the fourth flight. The win was the 148th of Bissinger's career, extending her school-record total of combined victories. She now has 76 singles wins, just three shy of deadlocking Julie Weisblatt (1994-97) for the school record in that career category.
The Falcons drop to 9-8 overall and 4-3 in MAC action heading into the final week of the regular season. Penny Dean's squad will host Eastern Michigan Friday (April 21) and arch-rival Toledo (April 22) at Keefe Courts, with first serve set for 1:00 p.m. each day. Then, the Brown and Orange will return to Kalamazoo for the MAC Championships (April 27-29).
