MUNCIE, Ind. -
The Bowling Green women's tennis team recorded a 5-2 victory at Ball State Thursday afternoon (April 6). The win pushed the Falcons' Mid-American Conference record to 4-1. The dual match was held at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center in Muncie, Ind.
BGSU swept the three doubles matches, with the top team of juniors Abby Bratton and Erika Wasilewski downing BSU's Darcy Poulos and Libby Gerding by an 8-2 score. That win moved the Bratton/Wasilewski duo to a team-best 16-9 on the year.
The second-flight team of senior Deidee Bissinger and junior Meghan Rhodes won, as did the third-level tandem of sophomore Devon Bissinger and junior Tracy Howitt.
The Brown and Orange, now 9-6 overall in dual-match play, captured four of the six singles flights, led by Bratton's straight-sets victory at the top flight over BSU's Gena Tranquada. Rhodes won a three-set match at the third flight, while Devon Bissinger and Howitt were triumphant at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively.
Howitt's win at the third doubles level was the 100th overall win of her BGSU career. She ranks 12th on that school list. Howitt's singles win moved her team-best singles mark to 18-8 this year.
Deidee Bissinger's doubles win gave her a career total of 147 combined wins, extending her school record.
Ball State drops to 6-10 overall and 2-3 in the MAC. In the preseason coaches poll, the Cardinals were picked to finish fifth in the MAC, while the Falcons were picked to place sixth.
BGSU is next in action on Friday, April 14, heading to Northern Illinois for a MAC dual.
