BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University has hired Janet Schneider as an assistant athletic trainer, BGSU Director of Athletics Paul Krebs and his staff have announced. Schneider comes to BGSU after nearly two years as a clinical outreach athletic trainer at Sports Care Rehabilitation in Toledo. She will begin her duties at BGSU on approximately July 31.
A native of Orefield, Pa., Schneider is contracted to Perrysburg High School under her current position, providing athletic training services which include event and practice coverage for all sports. In addition to her job with Sports Care Rehabilitation, she supervises internship and practicum students from various universities.
"I am looking forward to being a contributing factor to the success of the Falcon athletics department," Schneider said. "The supportive family atmosphere is very encouraging and will allow me to provide quality health care to the BGSU student-athletes."
Schneider has an extensive background in collegiate athletics. Prior to moving to Northwest Ohio, she spent almost three years at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla. Schneider was a graduate assistant in the athletic training area for the Seminoles for approximately 18 months, primarily working with the women's soccer and track teams. During most of that time, she also oversaw the training responsibilities for FSU's intramural sports.
Schneider was promoted to a full-time position at Florida State, serving as an assistant athletic trainer from February of 1997 to June of the following year.
Schneider also spent two years with Coordinated Health Systems in Bethlehem, Pa., prior to heading to Florida State. During her tenure in Bethlehem, she was head trainer at a number of summer camps at both Lehigh University and Lafayette College.
Schneider has worked as a volunteer at a plethora of events, including the 1996 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships, the 1999 Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, Race for the Cure and the Toledo International Rowing Regatta.
"We are very excited to have Janet join our staff at Bowling Green," said BGSU Associate Director of Athletics Janna Blais. "We are confident that she will make an immediate and positive impact upon our training room."
Schneider was graduated from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., receiving a B.S. in Health and Fitness/Athletic Training in May of 1993. She earned her M.S. in Sport Administration from Florida State in April, 1997.
Schneider and her husband, Ray, reside in Maumee. Ray, a former baseball student-athlete at Central Michigan University, currently is an assistant professor in the School of Human Movement, Sport and Leisure Studies at BGSU.
