HUNGRY FOR A WIN
Both teams will be looking for their first win of the season. The Falcons were picked to finish fifth in the East Division of the Mid-American Conference and have played the second toughest non-conference schedule in the MAC (behind Ball State). BGSU is ranked fifth in the country in fumbles recovered and eighth in turnover margin.
The Bulls begin their second season as a member of the Mid-American Conference regaining their Division 1A status after a 29-year abscence from big-time college football. Buffalo was picked to finish seventh in the East Division. They return four starters on offense and seven on defense. UB head coach Craig Cirbus is 17-38 since taking over at his alma mater in 1995. He and Marshall coach Bob Pruett are the only MAC coaches guiding their alma maters.
MAC OPENERS
The Falcons are 8-1 in conference openers under Gary Blackney. Last year's 35-16 loss at Marshall was the lone blemish in a MAC opener since 1991.
MAC HISTORY
The Falcons, who begin their 49th season as a conference member, rank second in MAC history in conference wins (200) and championships (10). Their .622 winning percentage ranks third all-time. Miami, which begins its 53d season in the MAC, leads in wins (215), championships (13) and winning percentage (.672). BGSU has finished first or second in the conference in 21 of their previous 48 seasons in the league.
FALCONS TAKE FLIGHT ON THE ROAD
BGSU opens the season with four of their first five games on the road. This week's game also will be the second of three consecutive night games, and the fourth straight game on television.
