An Ohio native, he brings 15 years of experience as a Division I assistant and has coached in seven bowl games. He most recently was the receivers coach at Notre Dame after serving on staffs at Ohio State, Illinois State and Colorado State. Following the Falcons' win over Missouri, ESPNMAG.com named him Coach of the Week in a column by Gene Wojciechowski.
HOMECOMING FOR THE FALCONS: Saturday's game against Kent State will be the focal point for the 80th Homecoming celebration. The Falcons are 47-22-10 in Homecoming contests.
The University has invited back members of championship squads from 1961 and 1991 and will recognize members of those teams during the game.
ANNIVERSARY AWARD UP FOR GRABS: The Anniversary Award was established in 1985 by the respective alumni departments at Kent State and Bowling Green State University. Commemorating the founding of KSU and BGSU and celebrating 75 years of existence, personnel headed by Larry Weiss of BGSU and Anita Herington of KSU came up with the original concept. Since the inception of the award in 1985, BGSU has won the honor 13 of 16 times.
THE FALCONS AND KENT STATE: Saturday will mark the 70th meeting between the sister institutions with BGSU holding a 48-15-6 advantage. The Golden Flashes will be making their first visit since 1998 to Perry Stadium and will be looking to snap a 13-game losing streak at BGSU. KSU's last victory in BG was a 14-10 triumph in 1972. Last year, the Falcons rode Janssen Patton's three interceptions to post an 18-11 win at Kent State. Two seasons ago, the Golden Flashes jumped on BGSU and defeated the Falcons, 41-27. In their last meeting at Perry Stadium in 1998, the Falcons notched a 42-21 triumph.
AFTER FOUR GAMES...: BGSU is two games over .500 for the first time this late in the season since 1997. The Falcons have surpassed their victory total of two from 2000 ...with the victory over Buffalo, BGSU posted its first shutout since October 8, 1994 (72 games)...BGSU is eighth in the country in rushing defense (60.5) and 12th in turnover margin (1.5). Junior Andy Sahm has completed 32 of 52 passes (61.5) for 450 yards and 5 TD's.
AGAINST THE RUSH: The Falcons have held all four opponents this season, and 10 of the last 14 foes, to under 100 yards rushing. The Falcons, who return nine starters on defense from 2000, have posted many outstanding performances against the run during defensive coordinator Tim Beckman's tenure at BGSU.
