CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University senior Caty Rommeck (Sterling Heights, Mich./Henry Ford II) has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week for volleyball, the league office has announced. Rommeck earns the award for the second time this season and the eighth time in her illustrious BGSU career.
Rommeck, a middle hitter/blocker, helped the Falcons to a perfect 2-0 record last week, increasing the team's win streak to a season-high six matches. In two road wins over Marshall and Ohio, Rommeck hit .403 (37-8-72) and averaged 5.29 kills, 3.43 digs and 1.29 blocks per game.
Rommeck hit .382 with 15 kills, 10 digs and three blocks in a three-game win over the Thundering Herd Friday (Nov. 9), then concluded the weekend with a match-high 22 kills, 14 digs and six blocks vs. the Bobcats. In addition, she also hit .421 in the match with Ohio.
In that Ohio match, Rommeck became just the 10th player in BGSU history to amass 1,000 kills as a Falcon. In just her third season in the Brown and Orange, she now has 1,014 kills. Rommeck, who played one year at Oakland University before transferring to BGSU, now has an overall career total of 1,146 kills.
Rommeck currently leads the MAC in both kills per game and digs per game, and ranks seventh in hitting percentage.
The award marks the fourth P-O-W honor for the Falcons this season, and the third in as many weeks. Junior Kristin Gamby earned the accolade a week ago (Nov. 5), while sophomore Susie Norris was honored the week prior (Oct. 30).
The Falcons (18-6 overall, 11-5 MAC) will host Cleveland State in Tuesday (Nov. 13) action, before heading to Kent State Friday (Nov. 16). BGSU will close the regular season with a Saturday (Nov. 17) home match vs. Toledo. All three contests are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
