DeKalb, Illinois - At the banquet honoring the final four MAC volleyball teams at the MAC Tournament in DeKalb, Illinois, two Bowling Green players received All-MAC Honors. Senior Caty Rommeck was named to the All-MAC first team for the second year in a row. Junior Kristin Gamby earned honorable mention.
A native of Sterling Heights, Mich., Rommeck leads the league in kills per game (4.61) and solo blocks (37), is second in blocks (1.36) and is sixth in hitting percentage (.307). She was named East Division Player of the Week twice this season. Rommeck is the first Falcon to be named first-team all-MAC in back-to-back seasons since Carlyn Esslinger did it in 1994 and 1995. In just three seasons as a Falcon, Rommeck is ranked on BG's career lists, as well. She is currently third in hitting percentage (.309), sixth in block assists (298) and total blocks (407), seventh in solo blocks (109), ninth in kills (1,089) and 10th in attack attempts (2,525).
Gamby, a junior from Mt. Victory, Ohio, earned all-MAC Honorable Mention for the first time in her career as a Falcon. Gamby is sixth in the league in kills per game (3.79) and eleventh in hitting percentage with a .282.
"I am very proud of Caty and Kristin", says Coach Denise Van De Walle. "They have ben instrumental to our success this season. It's always an honor to be recognized for your contributions. In this conference, where there are so many talented players, it's difficult to select only a few. So, I'm glad that the league's coaches feel the same way I do about them."
The Falcons play their semi-final match of the MAC Tournament Friday (Nov. 23) against Ball State. The match takes place at 4:30 p.m. CST in Northern Illinois' Chick Evans Field House.
