Falcons Have Solid Start At Rocket Indoor

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's tennis team had a successful first day of action at the Birney Tennis Foundation/Rocket Indoor. The Falcons posted a combined record of 12-1 in Friday (Nov. 2) action at the tournament, which is being held at Laurel Hill Tennis Club.
The Falcons went undefeated in singles action, and have posted at least one win against six of the other seven schools in the tournament (Toledo, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame and DePaul -- BGSU has not faced Illinois).
Senior Vitek Wild and junior Nicolas Lopez-Acevedo are competing at the A Flight in singles, while freshman Ian Bliss, sophomore Joel Carney and senior Ed Kuresman are in the B Flight. Junior Peter Gardonyi and senior Mike Kossoff are entered in the C Flight. All of the aforementioned players went 1-0 on Friday, with the exception of Gardonyi, who played -- and won -- two contests.
In doubles, Carney teamed with junior Geoff Hiscox for a win at the A Flight, while the Wild/Kossoff team won the opening match at the B Flight. Lopez-Acevedo and Bliss dropped a narrow, 8-6 decision in B-Flight action, for the Falcons' lone setback of the day.
In the C Flight, which is being played under a round-robin format, the Kuresman/Gardonyi team went 1-0 on Friday.
The Rocket Indoor continues with Saturday and Sunday action (Nov. 3-4).
