CLEVELAND, Ohio - Bowling Green State University redshirt junior Kristin Gamby (Mt. Victory, Ohio/Marion Elgin) has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the conference office has announced. Gamby earns a MAC weekly award for the first time this season, and for the second time in her Falcon career.
Gamby, a middle hitter/blocker, helped the Falcons to a 2-0 record last weekend, including a come-from-behind win over East Division-leading Akron Saturday (Nov. 3). She hit .373 last weekend, and led the Brown and Orange with 5.25 kills per game.
Gamby had a match-high 21 kills in Friday's (Nov. 2) home win over Central Michigan. She hit .441 off the bench, and added two blocks. BGSU downed the Chippewas in four games.
Saturday, Gamby again had 21 kills to pace all players. She hit .317 in that win, and had a team-high five total blocks, including one solo rejection. After dropping the first game to UA, the Falcons won the next three.
On the season, Gamby is hitting .284 with 3.74 kills per game. She ranks 10th in the league in the former category and seventh in the latter.
BGSU earns a player of the week for the second time in as many weeks. Sophomore Susie Norris earned the honor a week ago. Senior Caty Rommeck also has earned a MAC P-O-W award, getting her honor after the first weekend of the season (Sept. 3).
The Falcons (16-6 overall, 9-5 MAC) of head coach Denise Van De Walle are just a half-game behind first-place Akron in the race for the MAC's East Division lead. This weekend, the Brown and Orange will hit the road for a pair of matches. BGSU will play at Marshall in Friday (Nov. 9) action, before meeting Ohio Saturday (Nov. 10) night.
The Falcons' next home action will be a non-conference contest on Tuesday, Nov. 13, vs. Cleveland State.
Start time for all five of BGSU's remaining regular-season matches will be 7:00 p.m.
