Falcons Travel to Alaska Bowling Green State University travels to Alaska this weekend for a two-game series against the University of Alaska Fairbanks (Dec. 14-15). Both teams enter the series tied for ninth place in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association with Western Michigan (10 points).
BGSU versus the Nanooks The Falcons lead the overall series with Alaska Fairbanks 13-8-3 and are 5-4-2 in the Carlson Center. Alaska Fairbanks earned its first victory over Bowling Green in seven games last season with a 3-2 win in Fairbanks. BGSU had been 4-0-2 in the previous six meetings against the Nanooks. In the last 11 contests, the series is split 4-4-3 with five games going into overtime. All but two of those games were decided by two goals or less.
Bowling Green State University Head Coach Buddy Powers Buddy Powers (Boston University '75) is in his eighth season as head coach of the Falcons. Powers has an overall record of 251-204-39 (.548 pct.) in 13 years as head coach at Bowling Green (1994-SA), Rensselaer (1989-94) and Rochester Institute of Technology (1988-89). His record with the Brown and Orange stands at 131-133-24 (.497 pct.). Appointed the head coach at Bowling Green on July 12, 1994, Powers is the fourth head coach in the program's history. It is his 14th season overall on the Falcon bench after serving six years as assistant coach under Jerry York from 1982-88.
Last Year vs. Alaska Fairbanks The two teams battled to a series split last season after BGSU posted a 4-2 win at BGSU Ice Arena and UAF won vs. the Falcons on their home ice, 3-2. There were also 1-1 and 2-2 ties, respectively.
BGSU Snaps Winless Skid Bowling Green snapped a four-game winless streak on Saturday with a 4-2 victory against visiting Notre Dame. The four-game winless stretch tied a season-long for the Falcons and gave them their first home win since Nov. 9 (9-4 vs. Miami).
Masters Moving Up the Ladder Tyler Masters finished the weekend with 71 saves in two games against Notre Dame and moved into sole possession of fourth place all-time on Bowling Green's career saves list with 2,275 saves. He moved past Mike Liut (1973-77) who had 2,204 for the Falcons and is now 167 away from Paul Connell for third place (2,442).
