Bowling Green Women Fifth After First Day at Notre Dame

Thursday's Preliminary Results
South Bend, Indiana - After the first full day of competition, the Bowling Green State University Falcon women are fifth place overall with 293 points. Five women qualified for finals in individual events and swam Thursday evening (Dec. 6).
The first event of the evening, the 200 yard freestyle relay, finished sixth with a time of 1:38.94. The A relay team was made up of seniors Kim Moden and Alicia Coburn, junior Alissa Davies and freshman Amy Smith. The B relay, which finished 10th in a time of 1:48.23, was made up of Sara Mulshine, Melinda Dawes, Janice Rice and Jessica McCune.
Sophomore Jessica Humes finished ninth in B finals in the 500 free after qualifying 13th. Her time of 5:04.01, a three and half second improvement from prelims, would have placed her fifth in the A finals heat. Classmate Angela Jones finished 24th with a time of 5:27.91. Cassie Novak, a freshman from Connecticut won the event in 4:56.70.
Frosh swimmer Sarah Agnew finished 19th in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:13.58, matching her prelim time. Agnew improved her season best by three seconds with that swim.
Senior Kim Moden swam the 50 free in 24.37, good for seventh place. Her prelim time of 24.30 is her best swim this season. Teammate Alisa Davies was 11th with a time of 24.68, two-tenths better from prelims.
Sophomore Emily Hois finished sixth in the one meter competition with a score of 214.70, her season high.
The final women's event of the night, the 400 medley relay, saw two Falcons teams in the water The A relay, made up of Alicia Coburn, Sarah Agnew, Kelli Pydynowski and Kim Moden, finished sixth with a time of 4:10.99. The B relay of Jessica McCune, Erin Dilkes, Amy Smith and Alissa Davies finished 9th in a time of 4:13.09.
Competition continues at Notre Dame Friday (Dec. 7) and Saturday (Dec. 8).
